FanDuel ‘Prediction Market’ Launches Sports Gambling In 18 States

In December, FanDuel launched its so-called “prediction market” gambling app, which allows stock-market-style sports betting.

The standalone app, separate from FanDuel Sportsbook, initially launched in Alabama, Alaska, South Carolina, North Dakota, and South Dakota — all of which lack legal online sports betting.

On Jan. 14, 2026, FanDuel Predicts expanded to California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Utah.

In total, FanDuel Predicts is online in 18 states, many of which don’t allow online sports betting.

FanDuel’s prediction market, which allows teenagers to gamble, poses serious addiction risks in the U.S.

What is FanDuel Predicts?

The platform is a quasi-legal sports gambling app that facilitates peer-to-peer betting. It has analogues to moneylines, spreads, over/unders, and other common types of sports bets.

“Sports contracts will be available across baseball, basketball, football, and hockey in states where online sports betting is not yet legal, except on tribal lands,” the company said in a statement. “As new states legalize online sports betting, FanDuel Predicts will cease offering sports event contracts in those states.”

The federal Commodity Futures Trading Commission certifies so-called prediction markets. This CFTC certification provides a loophole around state gambling law. States are fighting back in federal court with lawsuits and cease-and-desist letters against the likes of Kalshi and Polymarket.

FanDuel Predicts, which operates under a partnership with CME Group, is a dangerous gambling app that can cause addiction and financial harm.

FanDuel Predicts vs. DraftKings Predictions

Rival DraftKings launched its “prediction” gambling app DraftKings Predictions about a week before FanDuel Predicts.

DraftKings had a quicker rollout of its predictions product.

DraftKings Predictions and FanDuel Predicts are essentially identical products, though their branding and offerings differ slightly. Other prediction sports apps in the marketplace include Robinhood, Fanatics Markets, and PrizePicks.

Users should be aware that prediction markets can cause immense harm to users.

Is FanDuel’s Prediction Market Legit?

Yes and no. According to numerous states, prediction markets are not legit platforms for consumers to use. According to the states, prediction markets circumvent state gambling laws.

While some prediction markets might have some so-called “responsible gambling” tools, these features are ineffective at the population level. Academic research has repeatedly shown that responsible gambling tools place the onus on the user of an addictive product.

Prediction markets advertise themselves as “trading,” which obscures the risks of gambling addiction and harm.
