Indiana Online Casinos: Why They’re Illegal And Harmful

Online casinos are illegal in Indiana. Any online casino that markets itself as available in Indiana is a form of unlawful gambling.

For example, Stake, one of the largest offshore casinos in the world, is illegal in Indiana. Other online casinos that are illegal in Indiana include Sportzino and BetWhale.

Online casinos can cause addiction and financial harm. Despite the harm, neighboring Michigan legalized online casinos within its borders. However, the Michigan-based products are not available in Indiana. Seven states in the U.S. have legal online casinos.

Gambling platforms must establish geo-fencing to block unauthorized user access.

Indiana policymakers have considered legislation to legalize online casinos, which are digital versions of slots, blackjack, roulette, poker, and more. Let’s examine the latest news on the topic.

Do Hoosiers Want Online Casino Gambling?

Nearly 7 out of 10 Indiana voters oppose legal internet casino gambling, according to an October 2025 statewide poll.

Opposition to Indiana online casinos was strong across multiple demographics and party lines:

  • Seniors (82%)
  • Women (72%)
  • College graduates (72%)
  • Republicans (68%)
  • Democrats (70%)

The poll was conducted by Pantheon Insight on behalf of the National Association Against iGaming (NAAiG), a pro-gambling group that opposes online casinos.

Online casinos are a divisive issue among gambling interests. All forms of commercial gambling are addictive and predatory, as casinos make most of their money from a small percentage of players. Nonetheless, online gambling can be even more harmful.

Indiana ‘iGaming’

After presenting information about gambling addiction, the poll found that 67% of Indiana voters said they oppose legalized online casino apps and websites.

Online casino interests often use the euphemism “interactive gaming” or “iGaming” to refer to the product. The poll found voters were more open to legalization when asked about “iGaming.”

Omitting information is a classic gambling legalization survey trick.

“These results make it clear: once Hoosiers understand what iGaming really is, they reject it, across every region, party, and demographic,” said NAAiG Board Member Daniel Reinhard.

Survey Methodology: The survey of 502 registered voters was conducted in October 2025.

Is Indiana Going to Legalize Online Casinos?

It’s still up in the air whether Indiana will legalize online casinos in 2026. The Hoosier State is among the most friendly in the U.S. to the casino gambling industry.

Indiana has 13 brick-and-mortar casinos and legalized sports betting in 2019.

The Hoosier State would likely have legal online casinos if gambling interests in the state were all in favor of it. Unfortunately, concern about addiction is not the reason.

If the Indiana Legislature truly cared about online gambling addiction, it would not have legalized online sports betting — an addictive and harmful product.

Indiana Online Casino Bill

In 2025, Indiana lawmakers briefly considered House Bill 1432, which would have legalized online casino games, such as slots, blackjack, and roulette.

The House Public Policy Committee approved House Bill 1432 in late January 2025. However, the legislation did not advance any further in the session.

Lawmakers will likely revisit Indiana online casino gambling in 2026.

HB 1432 would have also authorized the state lottery commission to operate the sale of draw games and eInstant games over the internet.

Like other states with legalized online casino and online lottery gambling, the legislation would have established voluntary self-exclusion programs.
