Is UFC fighter Conor McGregor feeling the pressure from threats and abuse from fans who bet on his recent performance?
On Tuesday, posted an unusual message on his social media.
“I will have the results of the scan on my leg tomorrow,” McGregor posted. “The fight should be a no contest and all bets returned.”
It’s highly unusual for an athlete to publicly plead for the sports betting industry to refund losing wagers.
McGregor, who hadn’t fought in five years prior to his bought on Saturday, was an underdog against Max Holloway.
It’s unlikely the industry will cater to his desperate demand. Las Vegas hosted his recent fight, which he lost in just 69 seconds after an apparent injury on the first strike he threw.
Conspiracy theorists had a range of reactions, including that the fight was fixed. There is no evidence of that.
Prior to the fight, McGregor posted a promo for the prediction market gambling site Polymarket, which is a UFC partner.
