The Boston Red Sox are promoting Kalshi even as Massachusetts considers the prediction market’s sports wagering business unlawful.

On Friday, the Red Sox featured Kalshi as the presenting sponsor of the team’s official lineup on social media. The team also sent a marketing email to fans encouraging recipients to bet on sporting events through Kalshi.

Kalshi currently cannot offer its sports markets to people in Massachusetts. Non-sports markets are allowed.

Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell sued Kalshi in September 2025, alleging that the company was illegally accepting sports wagers without a license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

In January, a Massachusetts Superior Court judge sided with the state at the preliminary-injunction stage. The court ruled that Massachusetts was entitled to block Kalshi from offering sports-related event contracts unless the company obtains the license required under the state’s sports wagering law.

Kalshi argues that it isn’t a sportsbook and that its federally regulated event contracts fall under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s exclusive jurisdiction.

The dispute is now before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, which heard arguments May 4 over whether federal commodities law preempts Massachusetts gambling laws as applied to Kalshi.

As of Friday, Aug. 21, the court had not issued its decision. For now, Kalshi’s sports markets remain unavailable in Massachusetts.

Kalshi nevertheless offers extensive betting markets on the Red Sox. A Kalshi user would have to be physically outside the state to legally wager on the Red Sox.

The Red Sox relationship is Kalshi’s first with an individual MLB franchise. Rival Polymarket has a deal with the New York Yankees.

This isn’t the first connection to prediction markets for the Red Sox. Its ownership has a stake in a company called FutureSports, which is behind an S&P 500-like sports gambling product.
